Checkout now supports Recurring Orders in public beta for both Complete Checkout and Payment Only modes.
Recurring Orders let your customers automatically place future orders at regular, predefined intervals using Checkout. Checkout handles the initial payment and securely tokenizes payment details for future charges. Customers can trigger a recurring order and complete their first purchase through Checkout using a new credit card, an alternative payment provider such as PayPal or Klarna, or a previously stored payment method. Their payment method is then securely stored and linked to the recurring schedule, ensuring a seamless and secure experience for all future automated transactions.
We have introduced new APIs and updates to support Recurring Payment workflows:
- Checkout Recurring Payments API: Maps a Recurring Order to the Payment Method and Payment Connector that execute its future payments, allowing you to view, create, and update the payment configuration for a Recurring Order.
- Checkout Recurring Payment Jobs API: Allows Payment Connectors to communicate recurring payment information to Checkout asynchronously, automating the Recurring Cart configuration and creating the corresponding Recurring Payment.
- Transactions API: Updated with
TransactionItemRecurringandTransactionItemRecurringDraftto support recurring transactions when initiating payments.
