# Parameter sets Parameter sets let you customize administrative parameters that control how the InStore POS behaves. Use parameter sets to apply business rules and tailor the app to your needs. [Administrative parameter](/instore/customization/administration-parameters.md) sets are groups of settings that control features and functions in the InStore POS. You can keep the default values or customize them to fit your needs. To customize parameters, create one or more parameter sets. In the [environment](/instore/use-the-instore-center/environment.md), assign a parameter set that is used as a fallback by all locations. You can create override sets and assign them to the environment, to locations, or to workstations to supersede the fallback settings. Parameter set assignments are evaluated and updated whenever the InStore POS is invoked. To learn more about fallback and override parameter sets, see [Inheritance](/instore/use-the-instore-center/inheritance.md). To track changes in parameter sets, see [Parameter history](/instore/use-the-instore-center/parameter-history.md). ## Parameter set types Parameter sets can be assigned as fallback or override sets. Fallback sets apply to the entire environment. Override sets can be assigned to the environment, a location, or a workstation to supersede fallback settings. ### Create a fallback parameter set A fallback parameter set provides default values for all locations. To create a fallback set, follow these steps: 1. In the InStore Center, select **Parameters**. 2. On the **Parameter Sets** page, select **Add Parameter Set**. 3. In the **Parameter Set** pane, enter the following values: - **Parameter Set Name**: A short, recognizable name (for example, **Environment Fallback**). - **Parameter Set Description**: A brief explanation of the set's purpose (for example, Fallback environment-level parameters). - **Start Date** and **End Date**: Leave blank for fallback sets. 4. In the **Parameter Values** pane, select **Add Parameter**. 5. On the **Select Parameters** page, move parameters to the right and select **Add parameter(s)**. 6. In the **Parameter Values** pane, click the **Edit** icon to change parameter values as needed. 7. In the **Edit Parameter Setting** page, select or specify the preferred value for most locations. 8. Optionally, enable the **Immutable** toggle to prevent overrides at the location or workstation level. 9. Click **Save Changes**. 10. Repeat steps 6–9 until all parameters reflect the company's default policies. 11. On the **Environment** page, select this set in the **Default Parameter Set** field and save. ### Create a parameter set override [Override sets](/instore/use-the-instore-center/inheritance.md) can be assigned to the environment, location, or workstation. To create an override set, follow these steps: 1. In the InStore Center, select **Parameters**. 2. On the **Parameter Sets** page, select **Add Parameter Set**. 3. In the **Parameter Set** pane, enter the following values: - **Parameter Set Name**: A short, recognizable name (for example, **2024-25 Holiday Season Zone 8**). To replace an existing set, give the new one the same name. This ensures the system applies the new version correctly. For more information, see [Inheritance](/instore/use-the-instore-center/inheritance.md). - **Parameter Set Description**: a brief explanation of why this set is needed (for example, Sets holiday on-hand cash for all Zone 8 locations). - **Start Date**: (optional) enter a date for when this set takes effect. If this set is part of a series, the set with the later start date takes priority. For more information, see [Inheritance](/instore/use-the-instore-center/inheritance.md). - **End Date**: (optional) enter a date for when this set stops taking effect. When the end date arrives, the application reverts to the fallback set if no other set has a **Start Date** that has taken effect. If left blank, the set applies indefinitely. 4. In the **Parameter Values** pane, click **Add Parameter**. 5. On the **Select Parameters to Add to the Set** page, select only parameters that should not inherit fallback values. 6. Click **Add Parameter(s)**. The **Parameter Values** pane lists only the parameters you selected. 7. Select the **Edit** icon to change values for each parameter. 8. In the **Edit Parameter Setting** page, select or specify the new value. 9. Optionally, enable the **Immutable** toggle to prevent overrides at a location or workstation. 10. Click **Save Changes**. 11. In the settings for the [Environment](/instore/use-the-instore-center/environment.md), one or more [Locations](/instore/use-the-instore-center/location.md), or one or more [Workstations](/instore/use-the-instore-center/devices.md), select this override set and save. ### Edit parameter values 1. In the **Parameter Values** pane, click the **Edit** icon in the **Actions** column. 2. In the **Edit Parameter Setting** page, select or specify the new value. 3. Enable the **Immutable** toggle to prevent overrides at a location or workstation. 4. Click **Save Changes**. For more information about when changes take effect, see [Inheritance](/instore/use-the-instore-center/inheritance.md). ### Activate a parameter New parameters are deactivated by default. To activate a parameter, follow these steps: 1. In the InStore Center, select **Parameters**. 2. Click the edit icon next to the parameter set you want to modify. 3. In the **Parameter Values** pane, click **Add Parameter**. 4. On the **Select Parameters** page, move the selected parameters to the right and click **Add Parameter(s)**. 5. Click **SAVE CHANGES**. 6. Set the parameter to the value you want and save it. ### Delete parameters or parameter sets You can delete parameters from a set, which creates a new version of the set: 1. In the InStore Center, select **Parameters**. 2. On the **Parameter Sets** page, find the set you want to edit and click **Edit** in the **Actions** column. 3. In the **Parameters** pane, find the parameter and click **Delete** in the **Actions** column. 4. Confirm the deletion. To delete a parameter set, which marks all versions as **Deleted** in [Parameter history](/instore/use-the-instore-center/parameter-history.md), complete the following steps: 1. In the InStore Center navigation menu, select **Parameters**. 2. On the **Parameter Sets** page, find the set you want to delete and click **Delete** in the **Actions** column. - Do not delete your global fallback set without a replacement. - If you delete one parameter set, all parameter sets with the same name are deleted. ### Meet business goals with parameters See [Parameter-based features](/instore/customization/parameter-based-features.md). ## Related pages - [Area overview page with navigation](/instore.md) - [Previous page: Parameter history](/instore/use-the-instore-center/parameter-history.md) - [Next page: Receipt template sets](/instore/use-the-instore-center/receipt-template-sets.md) - [Search documentation and API specs](/search.md)
