One account for all commercetools products.
Identity is an authentication service that provides access to commercetools business tools and other offerings using a single account. This ensures a consistent and secure experience, helping us build better, more integrated experiences in the future.
Identity migration
In August 2025, we began migrating our business tools to use Identity for authentication, starting with Studio. Over the next few months, we'll migrate the Merchant Center as well as some of our other services.
What to expect
On the date that a tool switches to Identity authentication, all users will be signed out. To sign back in, users must use an Identity account. If a user doesn't have an Identity account at that time, they'll need to create one.
While users can create an Identity account now, they will not be able to access the Merchant Center with those credentials until 6 October. Until then, the Merchant Center account credentials must be used.
Keep in mind that the Merchant Center account credentials and the Identity account credentials are two separate things.

FAQs
Will access and permissions within a tool change?
No. If users sign up for an Identity account using the same email that they previously used, their access and permissions will be carried over.
Identity only provides authentication; permissions are managed directly within the business tools themselves.
Do the links to the Merchant Center or Studio change?
No.
For Merchant Center, you can continue to use the same region-specific links. For Studio, you can continue to use the same customer-specific links.
When accessing these links while signed out, you are redirected to Identity to authenticate and then returned to the application.
How does this affect SSO?
If a company is currently using SSO in the Merchant Center for one or more Organizations, an IT administrator must complete a one-time SSO setup by 30 September 2025. On 6 October, users must use their Identity account to sign in to the Merchant Center.
How does this affect password authentication?
Keep in mind that the Merchant Center account credentials and the Identity account credentials are two separate things.
Which tools and services are currently supported by Identity?
What information must be provided when creating an Identity account?
Each user will be asked to provide their email address, first name, last name, and role. The selected role does not affect access or permissions within our business tools.
What will users see when accessing the Merchant Center after migration?
All users will be signed out on 6 October and must sign in with their Identity account. After signing in, the tool will open as usual.
If the user doesn't have an Identity account, they must create one at that time. After completing the sign-up flow, users will be redirected back to the Merchant Center.
Users can continue to use their existing bookmarks to access the Merchant Center.
Are API clients affected?
No, API clients are not affected.
