One account for all commercetools products.
Identity is an authentication service that provides access to commercetools business tools and other offerings using a single account. This ensures a consistent and secure experience, helping us build better, more integrated experiences in the future.
Identity migration
In late 2025, we began migrating our business tools to use Identity for authentication, starting with Studio and Merchant Center. We'll continue to migrate additional tools and services over time.
What to expect
On the date that a tool switches to Identity authentication, all users will be signed out. To sign back in, users must use an Identity account. If a user doesn't have an Identity account at that time, they'll need to create one.
Supported tools and services
The following table shows commercetools business tools and services and their Identity support status:

Configure multi-factor authentication
Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your account.
You can configure MFA in Identity only if you sign in with a password. If you use single sign-on (SSO), configure MFA through your identity provider.
The following methods are supported: Authenticator app, WebAuthn, and backup codes as a fallback login mechanism.
Authenticator app
- On the Identity homepage, go to Account Settings > Security.
- Click Enable TOTP.
- Scan the QR code or enter the setup key.
- Enter the 6-digit code and click Verify.
WebAuthn
- On the Identity homepage, go to Account Settings > Security.
- Click Add key.
- Enter a name for the key, and then click Register.
- Follow the browser prompt to authenticate.
Backup codes
Backup codes serve as an additional security layer, not as a standalone authentication method. They are only available when at least one multi-factor authentication method is active.
To generate backup codes, do the following:
- Click Generate backup codes.
- Click Generate codes.
- Copy the codes or download and save them in a secure location.
Delete your account
If your Identity account is linked to other accounts (for example Merchant Center or Studio) you need to delete the related account from each business tool first.
To delete your Identity account, do the following:
- From the Identity homepage, go to Account Settings > Security.
- Click Request account deletion, and then enter your email address.
- Click Initiate account deletion.
We'll send an email to confirm your request.
Deleted accounts can't be recovered.
